Because in dharmic religion, what liberation is actually like is meant to be seen as incomprehensible to those still within samsara. What this means is left ambiguous, but that is on purpose. You are described as outside the cycle of birth and death. But here you bring an end to it, to exist outside of it. The world system is samsara and an endless cycle. People focus on the demonic since it is called true demon ending, but it is actually more of (among other things) a depiction of a type of para-nirvana or liberation. The game is about a cycle of birth and death. That is part of the continuation of the dharmic / buddhist themes. The game takes very little effort to explain this, or what any of it means, leaving a lot of ambiguity. To add to this, lucifer talks about how now time is stopped, and now the cycle is dead. Since the human world is dead it is left ambiguous where magnetite / observation would come from, or whether its even still needed. The games talk about gods and humans existing in a cycle of rebirth, being born as different things, but human observation upholding the demonic realms. One thing that seems a little confusing though is tde. They also mention how karma can affect future births. It talks not just about reincarnation of the individual, but of the death and rebirth of the world as a whole, which is a large motif in dharmic religions. ![]() While reincarnation is loosely referred to in many of the games, nocturne emphasizes it far stronger. The abrahamic elements are mostly absent, especially before the rerelease. And the entire vortex world (though this got butchered in the English translation) is meant to be the womb realm. Kagutsuchi is a japanese god mixed with the idea of the cosmic egg. Gozou tennou is a buddhist figure, and both shijima and yosuga have buddhist elements, although way less explicit than mainline sides. Specifically vajrayana buddhism, and its overlap with some shinto elements. But its religious themes are much more dharmic and buddhist than normal. A lot of people know that nocturne's alignment theme is chaos to contrast IIs being law. Nocturne does have a theme, which a lot of people realized, but its much more subtle than normal. You do still get religious images, but they don't really exist in an obvious relationship to eachother. But in nocturne everything is more scattered and random. In mainline we get some overt depiction of heaven vs hell among other things, in dds we get a pretty obvious and straightforward hindu depiction. One of the weird things about nocturne is that unlike the other games in mainline and even the side games like dds, most of its ideas are way more implicit than explicit.
